Lisa Potkewitz, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Potkewitz was raised in Seaford, NY on the South Shore of Long Island. At 13 she began volunteering at the nearby humane society, Bid-A-Wee Animal Association. This was the start of a lifelong passion of aiding rescue animals and working with their new owners.
Dr. Potkewitz attended Cornell University for both her undergraduate degree (B.S. in Animal Science, 1982) and veterinary degree (DVM 1988). Prior to joining New Baltimore Animal Hospital in August 2018, she has worked as both a general veterinary practitioner and shelter veterinarian in the Capital District. She began her career working with farm animals, horses, and companion animals at Copake Veterinary Hospital. For the past four winter seasons, she has also continued to work in shelter medicine at Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control in W. Palm Beach, Florida.
Dr. Potkewitz lives with her longtime partner, Michael, and their two 15-year-old former rescue cats. When not working, she enjoys walking, hiking, preserving food grown in their raised bed gardens, and reading a good novel indoors in front of the woodstove or outdoors on a nice sunny day.
